EXPERIENCE
Marcus holds a doctorate degree in the field of biosciences and biotechnology, including genetic engineering. He has extensive years of research experience, and has won awards in local and international conferences. Marcus also has extensive experience and competency in managing and supervising projects. He was selected as an honorary graduate at the University of Nottingham in 2017. He hopes to bridge the gap between scientific innovations and commercialization using the intellectual property (IP) platform using his various expertise.
Marcus now manages the Patent Department of NBS Intellectual Sdn. Bhd., and handles local and international portfolios of patents and industrial designs. These include the prosecution and enforcement of patent and design rights before various intellectual property offices, such as World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO)–Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT), European Patent Organization (EPO), United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), Japan Patent Office (JPO), Korea Intellectual Property Office (KIPO), IP Australia, China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA), etc. He handles patent and design portfolios of entities from a wide range of local and international arena, such as National Institute of Biotechnology Malaysia (NIBM), Malaysia Agricultural Research and Development Institution (MARDI), Newpages, University of Nottingham, National University of Malaysia (UKM), University Malaya (UM), Yamaha Motor, ZTE Corporation, CariCarz Malaysia, etc.
Marcus had participated in various programmes and working groups, including MyIPO meetings and courses; WIPO, EPO and EUIPO seminars; training at the China Intellectual Property Training Center, Beijing; trial sessions at the Shanghai High People’s Court; Shanghai International Intellectual Property Forum & Global IP Protection and Innovation Development Conference; Asian Patent Attorney Association (APAA) Patent Surgery Course; International Trademark Association (INTA) Annual Meeting; China Trademark Festival (CTF); Malaysia Intellectual Property Association (MIPA) Patent, and Design & Copyright Sub-committees; and more.
