✍🏻 Coca Cola, or fondly known by many as Coke, has come a long way since it was first introduced in 1886. The formulation of this soft drink remains a trade secret after its first patent was granted in 1893, and has been refined over time to this day. The Coca Cola Company was also granted a design patent (also known as industrial design) for the distinctive Coke bottles in 1915, making it one of the first beverage companies differentiating itself by its packaging. A year after the patent was granted, the design had been slightly modified – but the iconic curves in the original patent are still recognisable today. This goes to show that there are many ways to protect the IP of your gastronomical endeavours, which can start with a simple experiment in your kitchen.
