Renaissance Hotel Holdings Inc. is the proprietor and holder of the trademark ‘RENAISSANCE’, won a suit against Sai Renaissance’s operator for a permanent injunction against the use of the allegedly infringing trademark ‘SAI RENAISSANCE’, as well as any other mark identical to ‘RENAISSANCE’.

The legal dispute arose in 2009 when Renaissance Hotel came to know that Sai Renaissance based in Bengaluru was also operating in the hospitality industry with a similar name. The apex court decided that the words ‘RENAISSANCE’ and ‘SAI RENAISSANCE’ are phonetically and visually similar and the use of ‘SAI RENAISSANCE’ is an act of infringement.
