A defendant surnamed Chen was ordered to pay 30,000 yuan to Entertainment One UK Ltd (creator and owner of Peppa Pig) for Peppa Pig trade mark infringement, with Peppa Pig having declared a well-known trade mark in China. The defendant had listed and sold LED lamps using the term “Peppa Pig” along with the name imprinting on the products’ packaging. Entertainment One UK Ltd had argued that the defendant had infringed the intellectual property law and that its trade mark should be protected under the trademark law since the trade mark and brand had garnered a high degree of reputation around the world including in Shanghai, China.
