The accesion of Malaysia to the Paris Convention for the Protection of Industrial Property of March 20, 1883 occured on 23rd June 1998. Ever since the Malaysia has had protection towards all kinds of Intellectual Property rights, but the awareness of such rights are critically low even until today, despite the passing of almost three decades.
So what is an intellectual Property then? An IP is an intangible asset generated purely from the creations of the mind of either a natural person or a business entity. Such creation can be further divided into several elements which are commonly known by the public as Trade Mark, the brands or business name of a company. Copyrights, the creative works or productions such as music, literature and even blockbuster movies. Patents, the innovation and futuristic Invention by experts and skillful individual. Even the exterior layout of a creation can be protected by an Industrial Design such as the shape of a car or the smart devices which we hold onto every single day of our live.
For almost three decades, the Intellectual Property Corporation of Malaysia (MyIPO) has been acting as a center hub for the public to gain access and protection for their IP. For obvious reasons, an IP would also have to be legalized in order to gain easy access to such protection as not only it could provide enforceable protection, it could also be another source of income when it is used in the correct manner.
