Industrial design is a process of design applied to physical products that are to be manufactured by mass production. It must be new and have never been disclosed to the public. In Malaysia, an industrial design is protectable under the Industrial Designs Act 1996 (amended in 2013) and its protection could last for up to 25 years (subject to renewal). One of the examples is Anglepoise lamp – a balanced-arm lamp designed in 1932 by British designer George Carwardine.
