📰 In 2005, McDonald’s tried to stop a Singaporean company, Future Enterprise Pte Ltd from using the prefix “Mc” or “Mac” on their products. Future Enterprise had applied to register “Mac Chocolate”, “Mac Tea” and “Mac Noodle” as trademark for their products. McDonald’s claimed that it had built an extensive reputation in Singapore using the prefix and therefore, the application by Future Enterprise will confuse the consumers, as the public will assume that the products originated from McDonald’s. The court, however, unanimously decided that there would be no confusion as the nature between the businesses are very different. Future Enterprises supplied its goods to the supermarket, while McDonald’s is a fast-food restaurant business.
