🔔 Do you know? In 2009, McDonald’s lost its exclusive claim to the trademark “Mc” on some of its food products within the EU after a dispute with Supermac’s, an Irish restaurant chain. McDonald’s had argued that Supermac’s is too close to their trademarked burger and will confuse the consumers. However, the European Union Intellectual Property Office ruled in favour of Supermac’s on the ground that McDonald’s had failed to prove genuine use of the prefix “Mc” on some of the products it trademarked, thereby losing its claim over Big Mac. McDonald’s however retained its “Mc” trademark on chicken nuggets and some of its sandwich products.
