⚖️ Apple Inc. once filed a lawsuit against Amazon.com over their Appstore for Amazon. The term “App Store” was first filed by Apple Inc. for their digital distribution platform (Apple launched App Store in July 2008 and Amazon launched theirs on March 2011). Apple had alleged that the act is trademark violations and false advertising. To which, Amazon Inc. countered that the term “app store” had become so generic that it would not mislead customers. Fearing of losing the trademark, Apple Inc. decided to give Amazon a covenant not to sue, so that Amazon would drop its counterclaim to have the registration cancelled, thus, clearing the way for both companies to use it.
