The earliest patent in Malaysia was filed on 4 October 1986 and was granted on 29 September 1990. It was owned by a Japanese company, Takeda Chemical Industries Ltd., on a novel DNA and polypeptide exhibiting Hepatitis B virus E antigenicity produced by a microorganism.
