📰 In 2013, the estate of Marvin Gaye sued Robin Thicke, T.I. and Pharrell Williams, claiming that their hit song “Blurred Lines” infringed Marvin Gaye’s 1977, “Got to Give It Up”, as well as from Funkadelic’s, “Sexy Ways”. Although proven to have no similarities between the songs, Thicke and Pharrell were still found guilty. The jury was influenced by the “feel” and “grove” of the songs that are not protected under copyright law. Thicke and Pharrell were ordered to pay millions to the Gaye’s estate for ‘straying’ to close the song’s vibe.
